GOLDEN GAYS

"The Home for the Golden Gays is a non-profit organization. It was established in the mid 1970’s by LGBT rights activist and columnist Justo Justo. He founded a care facility in Pasay for the elderly and homeless gays. At the time of his death in 2012, The Home for the Golden Gays was forcibly closed. Majority of the original members are now living on the streets without families or a proper income in their old age. Our advocacy aims to shed light on the rights of the LGBT and break the stigma attached to it."

Why we support them: Geline was very close to her late paternal grandparents. They helped raise her and gave her a chance at life when circumstances were poor during her childhood. She would spend weekends at their house and go to church together every Sunday. They have a huge impact on her life and she owes them for everything. Her grandparents always taught her to be kind, generous, and lend a helping hand. They both passed away in 2009, but Geline will always be grateful for all the love and support her grandparents have given her. This is why the elderly is one of her soft spots.

Drew & Geline consider themselves as 'LGBTQ+ allies', both having several close loved ones who are part of the community. Several of Drew's immediate family actively participate in the annual Pride Parade.

Where your gift will be used:

• Outreach programs to spread awareness on the current issues of the LGBT community, including health issues like HIV.
• Charity work to help feed and shelter elderly and impoverished gay men.
• Livelihood Workshops for the elderly gays to educate them on how to support themselves.
• Donors for housing the senior gays.
• A system where the local community in Manila and the Philippines- can send a small amount to fund our cause.

Why we support them: For Geline to receive her degree in Organizational Communication in 2014, she and her team needed to partner with an organization to conduct their thesis, a requirement to graduate. Upon searching for the right organization, she learnt that her late grandmother was actively supporting NORFIL through donations. This has encouraged her team to partner with this organization for their thesis. Her team has spent countless hours researching for and coordinating with NORFIL. They got the chance to meet NORFIL's teams, staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries -- abandoned children. For their thesis, they created a recruitment video to encourage the public to support NORFIL by joining their foster care program.

Having a tough childhood, Geline resonated with these neglected children and has always believed that children should be given a second chance in life -- like how her grandmother did for her.

Where your gift will be used:

• Foster Care program that provides for a planned period of substitute family care by licensed foster families to children who were neglected and abandoned.
• Domestic Adoption program and Liaison Service for Inter-country adoption for Adopjonsforum, Norway which provides permanent loving homes to children who are legally available for adoption.
• Enabling Communities for Inclusion (ECFI) Program for Children and Youth with Disability provides home and village-based rehabilitation and learning opportunities to children and youth with disabilities with the active participation of their families, and communities and in partnership with local government units.

Why we support them: Drew and Geline believe in patriotism. This is evident through Drew's service in the U.S. Military since he was 18, while Geline has always been involved in student governments since grade school to college so she has been always vocal about her political ideals. In the 2022 Philippine elections, Geline actively campaigned then Vice President Atty. Leni Robredo. She believes Leni is the best choice to lead the country for being a consistent example of good governance. The Office of the Vice President under Atty. Leni Robredo received the highest rating from Commission of Audit for 4 straight years (a rare and outstanding achievement), proving she is a genuine public servant who puts Filipinos as her best interest, in a country known for impunity and corruption. Drew and Geline are all about transparency and serving the greater good, so they both admire Atty. Leni Robredo. Drew even said that if he can vote in the Philippines, he would've voted for her.

"Sagip Babae Foundation is an organization that provides safe space for women who are victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. The trauma from that experience didn't end when she got physically examined nor when the perpetrator got jailed. Their crisis continues to arise, and the negative emotions linked to that experience might lead to serious mental health conditions. The mental health effects can be intense and long-lasting yet usually left unrecognized and unresolved.

With the Sagip Babae Foundation, every woman will feel safe and supported. We provide them with an avenue to voice their issues and concerns and seek help without the fear of getting judged. Gone are the days of hiding the traumatic experiences and mental health issues that affected them. Why we support them: Geline has personally experienced being underestimated and disrespected for simply being a female. Through various unfortunate encounters, this has affected her self-esteem and how she navigated life. Later on, these experiences have affected her mental health. Since then, she has been a firm believer of feminism and women empowerment. She believes that women should be strong, be supported, and not be bound by what society defines what a woman should be. Being a victim of harassment, she has chosen to support this foundation so women will be given safe spaces and avenues of opportunities.
